A computer-implemented method includes: acquiring data regarding a plurality of materials for manufacturing one or more products; discriminating a first set of one or more materials from the plurality of materials, each material in the first set being an alternative material with respect to at least one product of the one or more products; calculating a maximum consumption of each material in the first group relative to at least one of the one or more products within the cycle using a linear programming model; comparing the maximum consumption of the respective materials in the first group over the period with the available stock of the respective materials in the first group; and determining whether the respective materials in the first group are stiff within the period.
