The method comprises the steps that the air conditioner is controlled to operate in a heating mode, and whether the air conditioner meets a first starting condition of a first defrosting mode or not is detected; when the air conditioner meets the first starting condition, the air conditioner is controlled to operate in the first defrosting mode; when the air conditioner does not meet the first starting condition and meets a second starting condition of a second defrosting mode, the air conditioner is controlled to operate in the second defrosting mode; wherein the frosting thickness corresponding to the first defrosting mode is larger than the frosting thickness corresponding to the second defrosting mode, and the air conditioner is in a heating state under the first defrosting mode and the second defrosting mode. The defrosting effect of the outdoor heat exchanger of the air conditioner is improved, and the heating capacity of the air conditioner is improved.
