A cartridge for an aerosol-generating device is provided, including: a liquid storage portion to hold a liquid aerosol-forming substrate; an inner airflow path extending between proximal and distal ends of the cartridge; and a tubular internal component circumscribing part of the airflow path and including a tubular heater component including a susceptor within the airflow path for evaporating substrate, a distal end of the internal component including a retention element to receive substrate to prevent leakage, the internal component further including an airflow management component provided distal to the heater component and including a tubular sidewall circumscribing part of the airflow path, the sidewall including an air inlet, the susceptor including a planar major surface defining a plane extending through the airflow path, the plane being parallel to a longitudinal direction of the internal component, the longitudinal direction extending between the proximal and distal ends of the cartridge.
