A driving control method includes: controlling driving of a subject vehicle at a predetermined driving assistance level under condition that the subject vehicle travels behind a preceding vehicle; determining whether the subject vehicle changes a lane; determining whether the subject vehicle is traveling behind the preceding vehicle in the first lane at the predetermined driving assistance level; determining whether another vehicle is detected in the second lane when determining that the subject vehicle changes lane from the first lane to the second lane and determining that the subject vehicle is traveling behind the preceding vehicle in the first lane at the predetermined driving assistance level; when the other vehicle is not detected, keeping traveling of the subject vehicle in the first lane at the driving assistance level; when the other vehicle is detected, executing lane-change control so that the subject vehicle after a lane change travels behind the other vehicle.
