A method and apparatus for detecting an unknown obstacle, and a medium and an electronic device. During a moving process of an autonomous mobile robot, if an obstacle of an unknown type is detected within a distance from which detection cannot be performed, the autonomous mobile robot moves away from the obstacle to be within an effective detection distance, and then navigation is performed by means of an effective detection result.
