A permanent magnet manufacturing apparatus includes a compression molding mechanism and a magnetic field generating mechanism. The compression molding mechanism includes a pair of punches facing each other, and a tubular die into which the punches are inserted. The magnetic field generating mechanism includes a pair of coils. At least a part of the compression molding mechanism is disposed inside the coils. A raw material, containing magnet powder, supplied into the die is compressed by the punches while a magnetic field generated by the coil(s) is applied to the raw material. A direction of the magnetic field applied to the raw material is changed by at least one operation selected from a group consisting of a movement of an entirety of the magnetic field generating mechanism, a rotation of the entirety of the magnetic field generating mechanism, and a rotation of at least one of the coils.
