This application provides a method for reducing power consumption and an electronic device. In the method, when a Wi-Fi packet of a non-key type is received by the electronic device, if it is determined, based on a reception status of the packet of this type, that there is an abnormal Wi-Fi packet wakeup event currently, a Wi-Fi module is turned off when the electronic device satisfies a user perception-free condition.
