An organic electroluminescent device that comprises a first electrode, a second electrode, and an organic emission layer EML comprising: one metal-organic host compound MOH, and one organic emitter compound OE. The metal-organic host compound MOH has a total spin of ≥½ and/or possessing one or more unpaired electrons. The lowest electronically excited state within the emission layer EML is an exciplex EXformed by a single electron transfer between the MOH and the OE. The energy of the first excited triplet state of the organic emitter T1is resonant or higher as compared to the energy of the Exciplex EE: T1≥EE. The energy difference of the emitting first excited singlet state S1and the energy of the exciplex is less than 0.4 eV: S1−EE≤0.4 eV.
