A user interface assembly for a domestic appliance includes a control panel; a printing layer attached to the control panel; a user interface board; at least one electrode attached to the user interface board, the at least one electrode being configured to selectively interact with the printing layer; and a controller operably coupled with the at least one electrode, the controller being configured to perform an operation. The operation may include receiving, via the at least one electrode, a signal from the printing layer; analyzing the received signal to determine a model identification of the control panel; and activating a predetermined operating software for the domestic appliance based on the determined model identification.
