The invention belongs to the technical field of batteries, and discloses a separation method and a detection method for metal particles in a battery material. The method comprises the following steps: soaking a battery material to be detected in first pure water to obtain a first mixed solution; screening the first mixed solution to obtain oversize products; soaking the oversize product in a first ethanol water solution to obtain a second mixed solution; preparing a double-solvent system composed of a second ethanol water solution and second pure water; mixing the second mixed solution with the ethanol water solution layer of the double-solvent system, and carrying out layered sedimentation; and collecting sediments in the pure water layer of the double-solvent system, wherein the sediments contain the metal particles. According to the invention, a double-solvent system of an ethanol water solution and pure water is used, and physical separation of a battery material and metal particles can be realized by utilizing a layered sedimentation principle. The metal particles obtained through separation can keep the original morphology, and data support is provided for tracing of the metal particles through qualitative and quantitative detection.
