System and method for controlling metasurface

A system for controlling a metasurface having sub-wavelength structures formed thereon, each of the sub-wavelength structures being encoded with holographic information. The system includes one or more transmitters and a controller. The controller is configured to control the one or more transmitters to generate one or more radiation patterns. Each radiation pattern includes one or more radio-frequency (radio-frequency) beams directed towards the metasurface for interacting with one or more of the sub-wavelength structures, thereby outputting electromagnetic waves from the metasurface to reconstruct at least a portion of the holographic information.
